National Framework for Climate Services Kenya (2023)
The Kenya National Framework for Climate Services (NFCS) aims to enhance the country's resilience to climate change by improving the coordination, delivery, and use of climate information. Developed with support from ICPAC and ClimSA, the NFCS outlines strategies to ensure that science-based climate predictions and services are integrated into planning, policy, and practices across all climate-sensitive sectors.
The framework emphasizes key goals, including improving early warning systems, enhancing observation and monitoring networks, fostering research and innovation, and building capacity among users and providers. It also identifies the need for strengthened institutional collaboration, resource mobilization, and user-focused climate services. The NFCS aligns with Kenya’s development goals, including Vision 2030, and supports global initiatives such as the UN Early Warning for All.
A comprehensive costed action plan accompanies the framework, detailing necessary investments in technology, capacity building, and governance structures. Successful implementation is expected to improve decision-making, reduce climate risks, and foster sustainable development across Kenya.
