Weather observation begun in the 1890s in Kenya along the coastal region and mainly focused on rainfall measurements. These were done by individual settlers and organizations like the Kenya-Uganda railway at the time. The first standard meteorological station was started in 1926 under the British East Africa Meteorological Department
